FAFSA Data Transmission Delayed

At the end of January, the U.S. Department of Education announced a delay in sending听FAFSA data to schools. Originally scheduled for late January, these data transmissions听now are expected to begin in mid-March.

We have been preparing for the receipt of the data files by completing all necessary听testing as software updates become available. Our goal is to provide new students with a听financial aid offer at the first available opportunity. We recognize the uncertainty you may听feel as you wait for this important financial information and are grateful for your patience.

The new FAFSA application is a simpler, quicker process! In its first week of launch, the听site was down periodically as the U.S. Department of Education (ED) monitored the new听user experience. The FAFSA is now up 24/7.听听has听information about how to make sure you are prepared to complete the new FAFSA听before beginning the process.听ED also is reminding families that听Federal Student Aid will not be transmitting听FAFSA results to schools until March, so Kettering will not receive your FAFSA听information until that time. For up-to-date information about the new FAFSA from ED,听.听The FAFSA Simplification Act, passed by Congress in 2021, contains significant听changes to how federal aid is processed. Key changes required by the law include:

  • A streamlined FAFSA application
  • A new method of determining aid called the听, which will听replace Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

The Biden-Harris Administration's Student Debt Relief Plan

You may have heard that President Biden planned a loan forgiveness program for federal student
borrowers to assist with federal student loan debt. That program has been prohibited by a Supreme听Court ruling.

The Supreme Court issued a decision blocking President Biden from moving forward with the one-time student debt relief plan. President Biden announced following the听decision and find out how this decision impacts you.

In addition, you may qualify for one of the existing听.

Finally, the new听听is the most affordable听student loan repayment plan for most borrowers.听Under the SAVE Plan, making even periodic or听partial payments lowers the amount of interest you accrue each month.
